1 Slide masking on Wed Apr 01, 2009 2:02 am

Last night at the club the inter club slide battle was marred in my opinion because one slide was marked down because it was masked so as to be off centre when projected. What do folk think of that?
After the tea break the first slide shown was also off centre, the judge made disparaging comments about it and when the next slide was projected it was realised that the projector had been moved, the first slide had not been masked 'incorrectly'. The judge then apologised for his comments.
Surely the judge should be marking the image, whether it is central on the screen or not is immaterial, it it the quality of the image that counts in my book.
What do you all think?

Of course it should not be marked down; at least not at this level of competition.

I did think that some of the marks did not tie up with his comments anyway. The two portratis on the blue background gave him some concern. He was quite scathing of the first but liked the second but I think they got the same mark. Incidently what is the difference between paying someone in India to take their photo and paying a model in the UK?

No difference in my book.

I must say I'd be more than happy to give a deperately poor person some money for their picture; makes them happy, makes me hapy, everyone wins.

As you say, we pay models in the UK, and everyone is happy with that. The judge implied that he much preferred to "steal" someones photo. Hey ho.
